Senior Sociologist, BAŞARI expert, Dr. Deniz Kemik visited the Independence Village (Bağımsızlık Köyü) which was built with the financial support of the Probation Directorate of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Istanbul Development Agency and coordination of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Probation Directorate, Istanbul Governor’s Office, Eyüp Sultan Municipality and Eyüp Sultan Culture, Art, Sports, Education and Solidarity Association.
During her visit, Dr. Kemik had the chance to observe both the “Cascade Vocational Training for Drug Offenders” programme and the activities carried out in the Village.
In the treatment of addiction, which is accepted as a disease, it is aimed to benefit from the healing properties of therapy gardens, to spend time with the soil and nature, to realize the consequences of addicts’ behaviour and to add meaning to their lives in the Village.
In line with these goals, it is aimed to reduce the risk of re-offending by addressing the main factors that lead to crime.
